Meet Megan Carollo, owner of Flower Bar located in Scottsdale, and wedding florist extraordinaire catering to Arizona brides.  Megan’s studio opened in October 2012 and has hit the Arizona wedding industry by storm.  She and the five part-time employees at Flower Bar executed 30 weddings last season. Megan is personally on site to execute every last one of them.  She was kind enough to sit down with me and talk wedding flowers for the launch of my new blog.  Welcome to the summer edition of getting to know your wedding vendors!

Megan caters to the boutique bride and prides herself on her personal relationship with her clients and strives to capture their vision.  I can personally attest to this as Megan was my wedding florist this past spring and not only captured my vision but her creativity exceeded it and then some.

Megan suggests that Arizona brides should always meet with their florist or any of their vendors before hiring them. She advises to choose vendors who can execute your style.  Looking at a portfolio is a good start but vendors will often jump at the chance to do something different artistically, creatively and out of the box if given the opportunity!

Keep an open mind! Just because you’ve never seen it before doesn’t mean it’s not pretty!  When Megan initially meets with her clients she gets to know what make them unique, what interests does the couple share, what colors are they drawn to.  This allows her to be innovative in creating flowers special to the couple.

PhotographyBrides should expect to spend 10% of their overall wedding budget on floral.  The larger the wedding budget usually means the larger the wedding party and larger the guest list, which equates to more bouquets, more boutonnieres, and more centerpieces.  If that seems high, think of re-purposing aisle runners as centerpieces or entry table pieces as cake table decor, etc.

Fall Wedding Trends for Arizona Brides

PhotographyExpect to see lots of foliage in wedding trends this fall.  Megan suggests using leaves and greenery for a traditional fall look. Kale is unique and becoming a popular trend in wedding floral.  Textures are going to be so big this season!  The garden style deconstructed loose bouquets as well as the cascading waterfall bouquets are on trend.  Radiant orchid was Pantone’s color of the year so Megan also expects to see a lot purples.

Arizona brides on a budget will be selecting Hydrangea because it fills a lot of space in a centerpiece.  Seasonal flowers are always less expensive so if you are particular about a flower, keep that in mind when selecting your wedding date.

Megan’s favorite flower is Lily of the Valley because it reminds her of her grandmother.  This flower grew in her grandmother’s yard and was the first flower she picked, the first flower that she played with, and the first flower that she fell in love with.

Megan gets to do what she loves and be around beauty every day.  Every day she gets to stop and smell the flowers.
